Right now, I’m all about doing extra gymnastic training. I’ve been reading more of this book (see below) by Carl Paoli and I’m determined to improve my core strength and general mobility. I won’t ever get as good as Vitaly Scherbo, but I’m hoping that one day I’ll be able to hold a decent planche and easily smash a few freestanding handstand push-ups. This challenge is a small step along the way, and by the end of December I want to be able to hold it for 60 seconds with good technique (feet high and legs as straight as my crappy hamstrings will allow).
Looking to get yourself a pair of home parallettes? They are (in my opinion) one of the best home training tools you can invest in. A friend of mine made his own using piping and some DIY skills (check the instructions here), but I prefer proper metal ones that’ll never break on you mid-handstand.
